Coastal
Propery
for Sale in Ireland's South-West
Sale completion imminent - July 2004
Exclusive restored farm house on three acres - West
Cork
This
is a prime Irish coastal property in an outstanding location on the Beara Peninsula, West Cork.
Price €350,000!
Location: Thornhill, Castletown Berehaven, on the unspoilt, Beara Peninsula, West Cork. The house
is wonderfully sited, overlooking Bantry Bay, Bere Island and the
beautiful, 7-mile long Haven (haven - from old Norse, "hófn",
meaning, a sheltered place for boats). The property is at the end of a characterful,
cul-de-sac "boreen" giving it special seclusion and security.
The seashore is but minutes away across
the fields.
The Slieve Miskish and Caha Mountains, the geological spine of
the peninsula, form the northerly backdrop of the scene. Storied Hungry
Hill ( Daphne du Maurier used the name as the title of a historical
novel of the area) rears abruptly to the north.

Pat Bondurant relaxes in her south,
sun-porch with views of the Haven and Bere Island behind.

The Property: A four-bedroomed,
comfortable, ex-farmhouse, with attractive
reception rooms, service rooms and sun lounges, on circa three acres of land.
Outside, there are
some traditional, stone-built yard buildings, a large greenhouse, a
pond and quality ground for a large vegetable garden, plus grazing or
hay-making land.
The
American owners have lavished many improvements and facilities on the
property in the last seven years. A particularly interesting one is
the sophisicated, electrical power back-up system.
The gardens and surrounds are naturally landscaped with a
surprising amount of mature trees for an Atlantic climate. This
indicates that, despite the fine views and southwesterly aspect, the
property is
relatively sheltered.

Price: €350,000! (The
Euro is now equal to $1.20 approx.)
This might seem like a give-away price in Ireland's booming
market, but country properties are slower to sell than city ones, and
the sellers have their eye on another, very special place.
Thus, they have priced Carraigmór (the house name) to sell quickly.
The asking price is, very obviously, only a fraction of what you would pay on
Ireland's east coast for a similar house.
But it is also extremely good value in relation to comparable local
properties.
I am a neighbour and friend of the sellers, Herb and Pat,
and am putting this page up for them to help the sale through.
I am glad to act as a go-between between them and potential buyers.
If you have a genuine interest in the property, I would urge you to move
quickly. Contact myself initially
